Smoke vents

PRODUCT CHARACTERISTICS

Smoke vents are used in natural ventilation systems designed to extract smoke and heat (referred to as NSHEVS – Natural Smoke and Heat Exhaust Ventilation Systems). This is the most commonly used safety system in the event of a fire hazard. It operates based on gravitational ventilation, which is driven by buoyant forces resulting from the difference in gas densities caused by temperature differences.

In this process, a natural separation occurs between the upper layer—where hot gases mixed with smoke accumulate and are gradually released outside through smoke vents or smoke-extraction windows—and the lower, near-floor layer, which remains smoke-free. This smoke-free zone can be used to facilitate the efficient evacuation of people from the building under conditions of good visibility and also supports firefighting teams during fire suppression operations.

OUR PRODUCTS
COMPLY
WITH THE STANDARD
PN-EN 12101-2:2003

A natural smoke and heat exhaust ventilation system provides:

  • Support for the evacuation of people from buildings and other structures,
  • Reduction of the temperature beneath the roof and delay in the horizontal spread of fire,
  • Improved visibility to facilitate firefighting operations,
  • Reduction of fire damage and financial losses by protecting the building’s structure and equipment from the harmful effects of hot smoke.

Our smoke vents combine
several functions, including:

  • Smoke extraction
  • Ventilation
  • Daylighting
  • Roof access hatch

SMOKE VENT LEAF

The tilting leaf of the smoke vent is made from an aluminum profile system filled with multi-wall polycarbonate panels with a UV filter.

In our smoke vents, we use durable multi-wall polycarbonate panels available in clear, opal (milky), or combined versions, with thicknesses ranging from 10 to 33 mm. A standard PVC clip mounted in the frame ensures excellent thermal insulation, effectively preventing heat loss. Each smoke vent is equipped with wind deflectors (spoilers).

SMOKE VENT BASE

The bases of our smoke vents are made as standard from galvanized structural steel sheet S220GD with a minimum zinc coating of Z275 (275 g/m²) and a thickness of 1.5 mm. We use both straight and straight-sloped bases, available in heights ranging from 500 to 750 mm. The bases are designed to be insulated from the outside with rigid mineral wool, PIR board, polystyrene, or other insulating materials up to 50 mm thick.

Specially profiled straight-sloped bases effectively transfer permanent and variable loads resulting from environmental influences, transport, and installation, while maintaining their parameters and properties. Additionally, their shape significantly contributes to one of the key advantages of our smoke vents – a high effective smoke ventilation area relative to the geometric size.

We also offer the option of painting the vent covers and bases in any RAL color, as well as corrosion protection in classes from C1 to C5-I.

WIND DEFLECTORS (Windshields)

The wind deflectors are made from galvanized steel sheet with a minimum zinc coating of Z275 (275 g/m²). Their special triangular shape is key—it ensures effective extraction of smoke, hot air, and toxins. At the same time, the design efficiently disperses wind, minimizing the impact of side gusts. This contributes to the high effective smoke ventilation areas achieved by our products.

ACTUATOR

A 24V electric or pneumatic actuator is used to open the single-leaf smoke vent.

Actuator configuration depending on application:

ELECTRIC 24V

  • Electric smoke extraction
  • Electric ventilation

PNEUMATIC

  • Pneumatic smoke extraction
  • Electric ventilation (230V)

CLC – FIRELIGHT Smoke Vents

CLC – FIRELIGHT smoke vents achieved the highest results in mechanical testing conducted by the Building Research Institute (a group of testing laboratories accredited by the Polish Centre for Accreditation – accreditation certificate no. AB 023). The tests were carried out in accordance with the PN-EN 12101-2:2005 standard, which confirms:

  • Reliable operation (under both no load and high load conditions)
  • Reliable performance at high temperatures
  • Resistance to atmospheric conditions
  • Structural durability
  • Excellent thermal insulation properties

Smoke Vent on the Roof – An Efficient Interior Ventilation Solution

Installing smoke vents on building roofs is a highly effective method of interior ventilation, designed for smoke and heat extraction. This solution takes advantage of natural (gravity) ventilation, which relies on differences in temperature and gas density, making it exceptionally efficient. Smoke vents help reduce energy costs by minimizing the use of electric ventilation systems.

The presence of smoke vents also enhances building safety. Their ventilation function serves as an effective smoke extraction method. Opening the vents helps lower the temperature, which slows the spread of fire. Additionally, the roof openings can act as extra evacuation exits. This makes the installation of smoke vents a way to reduce financial losses caused by fire or excessive heat and smoke.

A smoke vent with roof access functionality is also a convenient solution from a maintenance perspective. It allows easy roof access for maintenance or cleaning crews. Using an electric actuator ensures simple operation and fast vent opening.
